Wavelength

The principle of 585-nm radiation is based on two biological mechanisms:

  • Activation of porphyrins: The absorption maxima of porphyrins lies between 360 - 400 nm and 500 - 635 nm. 585 nm penetrates especially deep into the skin. It is therefore effective for treating deeper dermatosis.
  • Absorption of the 585-nm energy by the cytochrome c in the mitochondrial inner membrane leads to activation of the cell and increased cell proliferation.

This wavelength can thus be used for handling the following indications:

Acne

The high absorption of 585-nm radiation by bacterial porphyrins leads to a similar reaction as with photodynamic therapy. In the bacterial cells, radical oxygen species are in induced. This kills the cells and thus reduces the bacterial settlement of the sabaceous glands. Because of the high penetration depth of this wavelength, even bacteria in deeper sabaceous glands are efficiently killed.

Skin Rejuvenation

When the skin cells are irradiated, the yellow light activates the skin cells. This leads to increased activity of the skin cells and to a noticeable rejuvenation of the skin. The wavelength of 585 nm can be used for the gentle treatment of ageing skin and selective treatment of wrinkles.
