Applications
The high absorption of 415-nm energy by porphyrines has in vitro and in vivo varying effects: - The absorption of the electromagnetic radiation induces a photochemical process in which reactive oxygen species are created. The reactive oxygen species have a cell-toxic effect.
- The absorption maxima of the bacterial porphyrins lie in the Soret band at 410 nm with additional smaller peaks in the Q bands at 530 nm and 590 nm.
- Blue light is 20x more effective than yellow light so that you can use lower doses. Blue light does not penetrate as deeply into the skin as red light, which makes it suitable for PDT of the skin surface.
