The LEDA applicator HP 415 blue is suitable for photodynamic therapy (PDT) of the skin surface and for acne therapy. Blue 415 nm light interacts with protoporphyrins in the skin and induces an especially effective photochemical reaction at a low energy density.
Photodynamic therapy of the skin surface
Blue 415 nm light is well absorbed by the protoporphyrins in the skin. These organic-chemical pigments have photosensitizing effects. They can be found in increased numbers in pre-cancer cells because of their higher metabolism. These pathologically changed pre-cancer cells can thus be treated selectively with blue light: They absorb the light energy, are heated and destroyed effectively. With only about 500 µm, blue light penetrates the skin less than red light does and is therefore especially suitable for PDT of the skin surface.
Acne therapy
The blue, highly energetic light of the applicator LEDA HP 415 blue can additionally be used for acne therapy. The light can suppress the growth of propioni acne bacteria and reduces the amount of bacteria on the sebaceous glands of the skin. The light energy is absorbed by the bacterial protoporphyrins and induces a photochemical reaction. Toxic oxygen species are built that effectively destroy bacteria.
