Lasers and light-based systems remove changed vessels quickly, gently and permanently. The therapy is suitable for superficial and deeper lying vessels as well as for bigger reddened areas.
Vascular skin changes in the face, on the body and on the legs are very common and are unattractive. Traditional treatment options are often painful and time consuming, have undesired side effects or are just not able to remove fine vessels. Lasers and light-based systems are an effective and gentle alternative for most vascular skin changes with high patient acceptance.
Which vascular lesions can be removed with lasers and light-based systems?
Lasers and light-based systems can be used to treat most vascular skin changes, either by applying the radiation through the skin (transcutaneous) or through endovascular treatments. The following are typical indications:
- telangiectasia, rosacea and spider nevi
- hemangioma and other angioma
- spider veins or starburst varices
- port-wine stains
- varicosity, varicose veins – even endovascular treatments on the legs
Larger reddened areas can also be treated successfully and gently with intense pulsed light systems (IPL systems).
Active principle of vessel treatment with lasers and IPL systems
The light energy of lasers and IPL systems permanently remove changed vessels: The high-energy light penetrates the epidermis and is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood. The blood heats up and coagulates and vaporizes, collapsing the vessel walls. These blocked vessels die and are absorbed by the body. The surrounding tissue and the epidermis are protected. Skin cooling improves patient comfort during the treatment.
The endovascular laser treatment gently seals vessels from within: A sterile fiber leads the laser directly to the affected vein.
Treatment of vessels with lasers and IPL systems: pinpoint and almost free of side effects
The therapy of vascular skin changes with lasers and IPL systems offers convincing advantages compared to traditional treatment options: Therapy is successful even on very fine vessels, is nearly pain-free, very gentle and has only minimal side effects.
The treatment time depends on type, location, size and deepness of the vessel and on the patient’s skin type. Normally, small vessels are removed in one to three sessions. Bigger vessels or areas may require several treatments to achieve satisfying results.
