Successful hair removal – directly at the root

Permanent hair removal with lasers and IPL systems

Lasers and light-based systems for hair removal directly address the hair follicle and destroy it permanently. The hair growth is gently reduced for a very long time.

Unwanted facial and body hair is aesthetically distracting and can even be a psychological strain That’s why permanent hair removal is one of the most popular aesthetic laser treatments worldwide. Compared to conventional methods, hair removal with lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) systems is faster and offers longer lasting results.

What types of hair are suitable for hair removal with lasers and IPL systems?

Lasers and light-based hair removal treats the root of the problem, not just the surface. The treatment has significant advantages compared to electrolysis, shaving, waxing and other methods: It is fast even on large areas, comfortable thanks to effective skin cooling and has long-lasting results by reducing hair growth for all hair and skin types:

  • facial and body hair on the back, on arms and legs, in the armpits, the bikini line etc.
  • lighter and darker hairs
  • fine and thicker hair
  • superficial and deeper lying hair
  • on lighter, darker and sensitive skin types

Active principle of hair removal with lasers and IPL systems

Lasers and IPL systems for hair removal have permanent results, because they address the problem at the proverbial root: The intense light beam penetrates the epidermis and unleashes its full effect directly in the hair follicle. The concentration of the target structure melanin is much higher in the hair follicle than in the surrounding tissue. The melanin absorbs the light energy, which heats up and thus destroys the hair follicle.

Hair growth is permanently reduced by more than 75 %. The hair that grows back is thinner and lighter than before and therefore much less noticeable. Hair removal with lasers and IPL systems is most effective when hair is in its active growth phase of the growth cycle, the so-called anagen phase. Achieving the best results possible usually takes several treatments in intervals of four to six weeks.

Hair removal with lasers and IPL systems doesn’t harm the epidermis, because the light penetrates the skin surface without damaging it. Additionally, the epidermis is cooled during the treatment. Nevertheless, slight erythema and edema might be visible after the treatment, but will disappear shortly afterwards.

Hair removal with lasers and IPL systems: successful even on darker skin

Initially, laser hair removal technologies were mainly used on patients with lighter skin and darker hair. Too much melanin in the skin reduced the effects of the laser light in the hair follicles and increased the risk of damage to the skin. Quantel Derma however offers modern lasers and IPL systems and treatment modes that successfully and safely remove lighter hair as well as hair on darker skin types.
