Lasers and IPL systems are a fast and gentle treatment solution for permanent removal of changed blood vessels – whether small red vessels or bigger spider veins and varicose veins.
Many patients suffer from so-called vascular lesions, enlarged blood vessels in the face or elsewhere. Traditional options for treating these blood vessels are often painful, time-consuming or just not suitable for removing very fine vessels.
Modern laser systems and IPL (intense pulsed light) systems are the effective and gentle alternative for removal of vascular skin changes. Only one or two treatments are enough to significantly reduce or completely eliminate the changed vessels. Furthermore, IPL systems are suitable for photo rejuvenation and reduce large area rednesses.
Which vascular changes can be treated with lasers and IPL systems?
Your dermatologist removes various vascular changes with a laser or IPL system, such as
- small red vessels, single or branched, such as telangiectasia and rosacea
- hemangioma and other angioma
- vascular skin changes that cover large areas, such as port-wine stains
- deeper lying changed vessels such as spider veins
- even varicose veins and so-called starburst varices
IPL systems are also suitable for photo rejuvenation of large areas with rednesses caused by vascular skin changes.
How does the treatment of vascular changes with a laser or IPL system work?
The light of the laser or IPL system penetrates the surrounding tissue and unleashes its full effect when it encounters the vein. The red blood cells absorb the light energy, heating the blood. The vessel walls collapse, the vessel is blocked and the flow of the blood is stopped. Varicose veins are treated with an endovascular fiber: the fiber directs the full light energy into the vessel and thereby seals it from inside. The closed vessels die and are absorbed by the body.
Treatments with lasers and IPL systems for removal of vascular skin changes are practically painfree, cause nearly no side effects and lead to fast healing. The treatment time depends on the form, size and location of the vessel as well the skin type. Small red vessels can usually be removed in only 1 to 3 sessions and are normally invisible directly after the treatment. Several sessions may be necessary to remove bigger veins and spider veins. A small crust may appear on the treated area after treatment and a brownish shadow of the vein may remain visible. Both side effects disappear after only a few days.
